    ## New Era Medical

    ### Complete a Budget Summary Worksheet

    #### GETTING STARTED

    Save the file
    **SC_EX365_2021_1a_**
    **_FirstLastName__1.xlsx** as
    **SC_EX365_2021_1a_**
    **_FirstLastName__2.xlsx**

Edit the file name by changing “1” to “2”.

If you do not see the
**.xlsx** file extension, do not type it. The file extension will be added for you automatically.

    With the file
    **SC_EX365_2021_1a_**
**_FirstLastName__2.xlsx** open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in cell B6 of the Documentation worksheet.

If cell B6 does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy.

    #### PROJECT STEPS

Josh Bartel is the senior director of the Pennsylvania field office for New Era Medical, a global company that manufactures medical equipment. He has created a worksheet summarizing the revenue and expenses for the first three quarters of the year. He asks for your help in determining what the Pennsylvania office needs to do to meet its targeted profit goals in the fourth quarter.
    Go to the
_Budget Summary_ worksheet. Cut the worksheet title from cell I1 and paste it in cell A1 to display the title in its expected location.

In cell E2, add the text
**Number of** so that the complete text appears as "Number of salespeople:" and more clearly identifies the value in cell G2.

    Enter
**Quarter 2** in cell C4 and
    **Quarter 3** in cell D4.

In cell G5, enter a formula without a function that subtracts the target revenue (cell
**F5**) from the year to date revenue (cell
**E5**) to determine how much revenue the field office needs to earn in Quarter 4 to reach its target for the year.

Josh wants to calculate the gross margin for Quarters 1–3 and the year to date. Provide this information as follows:

In cell B7, enter a formula without a function that divides the gross profit for Quarter 1 (cell
**B6**) by the revenue in Quarter 1 (cell
    **B5**).

Fill the range C7:E7 with the formula in cell B7 to find the gross margin for Quarters 2 and 3 and for the year to date.

Josh needs to sum the sales for each Pennsylvania region for the year to date. Provide this information as follows:

In cell E10, enter a formula that uses the
**SUM** function to total the regional sales data for the Northeast region (the range
**B10:D10**) to calculate the year-to-date sales.

Use the Fill Handle to fill the range E11:E13 with the formula in cell E10 to find the year-to-date sales for the other three regions.

In cell F10, enter the value
**925000** to provide the targeted annual sales amount for the Northeast region.

Josh wants to determine how much revenue each region needs to generate in Quarter 4 to reach its target for the year. Enter this information as follows:

In cell G10, enter a formula without a function that subtracts the target sales for the Northeast region (cell
**F10**) from its year to date regional sales (cell
**E10**) to find the amount of sales the Northeast region needs to generate to meet its target.

Copy the formula in cell G10, and then paste it in the range G11:G14, pasting the formulas only, to find the variances for the other regions and for the total.

Josh is interested in how much revenue each of the 12 salespeople generates on average in each quarter and for the year to date. Find this information as follows:

Edit cell B15 to include a formula without a function that divides the total regional sales in Quarter 1 (cell
**B14**) by the number of salespeople (cell
**G2**). Don't change the reference to cell G2 that is already there.

Fill the range C15:E15 with the formula in cell B15 to determine the average revenue per salesperson in Quarters 2 and 3 and for the year to date.

Josh also needs to calculate the operating margin, which is the ratio of operating profit or loss to revenue and indicates how much the office makes after paying for expenses. Calculate the operating margin as follows:

In cell B20, enter a formula without a function that divides the operating profit or loss in Quarter 1 (cell
**B19**) by the revenue from Quarter 1 (cell
    **B5**).

    Use the
**Fill Handle** to fill the range C20:E20 with the formula in cell B20 to find the operating margin for Quarters 2 and 3 and for the year to date.

Josh wants to include a visualization of the total year to date sales separated by region. Insert a chart to provide this visualization as follows:

    Create a
**2-D Pie Chart** based on the nonadjacent ranges
    **A9:A13** and
    **E9:E13**.

    Enter
**Total Year to Date Sales by Region** as the chart title.

Resize and reposition the chart so its upper-left corner is in cell I4 and its bottom-right corner is in cell L18.

    Apply
    **Style 3** to the chart.

    Hide the gridlines for the
_Budget Summary_ worksheet to make it easier to read.

Your workbook should look like the Final Figures on the following pages. Save your changes, close the workbook, and then exit Excel. Follow the directions on the website to submit your completed project.

    **Ethnic Diversity in Research**

Zamora, Williams, Higareda, Wheeler, and Levitt, (2016) report on research design biases in health research. Studies tend to underrepresent Latinos and other ethnic minorities. Latinos are underrepresented because of the exclusion of non-English speakers. Studies frequently classify Latinos and other non-white participants in an ‘‘other’’ category. The authors point to surveys that indicate that African American and Latino participants frequently distrust research and the medical community. Sometimes, they may have limited knowledge about what research, especially biomedical research entails and the potential consequences and/or benefits of participation.

According to Burlew et al. (2011), research findings that utilize predominantly European-American substance-using samples may not be generalizable to specific racial/ethnic minorities. Therefore, it is necessary that when you conduct your study that more research focus on racial and ethnic minorities to obtain information that will reduce and ultimately eliminate racial/ethnic disparities in the prevalence of substance use and to accurately evaluate the efficacy of substance abuse treatment interventions with racial and ethnic minorities (Burlew et al., 2011).

George, Duran, and Norris, K. (2014) emphasize that despite an understanding of the importance of racial and ethnic minority participation in clinical research, racial and ethnic minorities continue to be underrepresented in clinical research. This absence of ethnic diversity creates problems with the generalizability of research findings and equality in the provision of health care. The report that despite the fact that racial and ethnic minorities constitute more than 30 percent of the U.S. population, racial and ethnic minorities constituted only 17 percent of FDA clinical trial participants in 185 studies over a 5-year period. One of the reasons given for this disparity is that research has historically been conducted by White researchers and has targeted mostly White participants. Recruitment strategies developed for White participants were found not to be effective in the recruitment of minorities.

    Background Information

You are a researcher planning to conduct a study involving children in an inner-city school. The school principal has informed you that parents might be hesitant to allow their children to participate. To address these concerns, you will write an article aimed at parents, showcasing examples of recent research involving ethnic minority school-age children. The goal of your article is to reassure parents that the research will be conducted ethically and to demonstrate that their children will be well-protected.

    **Instructions**

Your article should include the following:

Selection of Research Articles: Choose five recent peer-reviewed research articles that involved ethnic minority school-age children as participants. These articles should exemplify ethical research practices.

Summaries of Research Articles: Provide a concise summary of each selected research article, highlighting the key findings and how the study was conducted.

Protection from Harm: Explain how each study ensured that participants were protected from harm and that their decisions were respected.

Well-being of Participants: Describe the measures taken in the research to ensure the well-being of all participants.

Fairness and Benefits: Discuss how the outcomes of the research emphasized fairness, particularly in the distribution of benefits among participants.

Inclusion of Ethnic Minorities: Highlight how each study included ethnic minorities as subjects, emphasizing the importance of their inclusion in research.

    **Writing Guidelines:**

Tone: Write in an informal, yet informative tone that is appropriate for an audience of parents. The tone should be conversational and accessible, helping to build trust with the parents.

APA Documentation: Even though the article should be informal, you must still document your sources using APA format, 7th edition including in-text citations and a reference page.

References: Support your article with the five selected scholarly research articles. You may also include additional appropriate scholarly resources, such as seminal articles, if relevant.

Length: Your article should be 4-5 pages long, not including the title and reference pages. Ensure that your paper is formatted according to APA guidelines, 7th edition (e.g., double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font).

Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.
