    Advanced Practice Policy Analysis Paper

**Advanced Practice Policy Analysis Paper (Individual) (30% of Total Grade) Due Week 5**

    **Assignment Objectives:**

    1. Explore and analyze health indicators in the community.

    2. Identify a problematic area of interest to advanced nursing practice.

    3. Evaluate and analyze three health policy options/alternatives for improvement supported by evidence (using a selected policy analysis tool)

    4. Prioritize and recommend one health policy to address the healthcare issue.

    **Purpose:**

To investigate & integrate knowledge of advanced nursing practice, scholarly inquiry, & leadership by examining a policy at the level of clinical practice, health care systems, or public/social health policy. The student must obtain prior approval of the policy problem/issue by the course instructor before the paper can be started. Failure to obtain this approval will result in the student receiving a zero for the assignment and considering this is worth 30% of the course grade, likely a failure in the course. It is recommended that students seek approval from the course instructor no later than the end of Week 3. Each student must email the instructor a brief synopsis of the chosen healthcare issue, how it relates to nursing and which policy analysis tool will be used for prior approval. Recommended resources to write this paper can be found in the Assignment Folder Summer 2023 in Blackboard with this assignment description and at the following websites provided here. The CDC Policy Analysis is the recommended tool and template for this assignment which provides a well-structured format to follow.

    **Assignment Instructions:**

Students are to submit a paper between 6-8 pages excluding title page and reference pages. Paper must be organized according to the guidelines provided below (remember to follow the grading rubric) and need to include all the identified sections and information as it is outlined in the grading rubric and assignment instructions. Paper must be completed in APA format and contain current scholarly sources dated from 2019 until current. Resources to assist students in conducting a policy analysis are provided throughout Blackboard and in course readings.

    **Introduction**

This part of the assignment should introduce the topics the student will be discussing in the paper and provide a bit of context about the approach. This is specific to the student content to be presented and not general to the assignment itself.

**Step 1:** Identify the Policy Problem/Issue & Provide Context

The first thing the student needs identify is a healthcare issue that, in your opinion, is a problem that calls for a policy solution, so the first step is to determine the policy issue of interest.

    **Step 2:** Provide the Landscape

Identify the key stakeholders/ and or key factors of previous efforts to address the policy issue These are the individuals and groups likely to affect or be affected by new policies taken in response to the policy issue under discussion. Identify key factors such as political, social, economic, practical, legal or quality-of-care factors.

    **Conclusion**

The conclusion summarizes the findings and recommendations of the entire analysis. This focuses on the student’s paper outlining key points that have been learned and assessed throughout the paper in a comprehensive and succinct manner.

**Please be sure to review and ensure you address all components of the rubric for this assignment before submitting your work.**

    I chose this health problem

One significant public health issue that warrants enhanced attention in health policy is adolescent mental health and the rising incidence of anxiety, depression, and self-harm behaviors. The adolescent population is increasingly vulnerable to emotional disorders, yet policy efforts often focus more broadly on adult populations or specific diagnoses rather than upstream preventive strategies. Leveraging social media as a health-promotion tool offers promising avenues for raising awareness, shaping norms, and engaging youth in meaningful prevention efforts.

Social media platforms provide a powerful venue to disseminate evidence-based preventive messages, foster peer support networks, and create interactive campaigns tailored to young people’s media habits. Research shows that social media interventions can enhance reach and engagement in health‐promotion efforts (Ghahramani, de Courten, & Prokofieva, 2022), and that well‐designed campaigns grounded in behaviour-change theory may lead to improved outcomes (Kite et al., 2023). For instance, a social media campaign for adolescent mental health could use short video clips, peer-led testimonials, hashtags to reduce stigma, and interactive polls to assess mood and link users to resources or helplines. By aligning messages with the stages of behaviour change and including calls to action (such as “Talk to someone now” or “Try a five-minute mindfulness break”), such a campaign can move beyond mere awareness to foster actual behavioral intent and help-seeking.

In policy terms, integrating metrics from social media campaigns (reach, engagement, conversion to help-seeking) can inform resource allocation and intervention scaling. However, it must be acknowledged that while social media shows strong potential for health promotion, there remain gaps in demonstrating sustained behaviour change and long-term outcomes (Ghahramani et al., 2022; Faus et al., 2022). Therefore, health policy should support not only the deployment of social media-based mental health campaigns for adolescents, but also rigorous evaluation frameworks, partnerships with trusted youth-facing organizations, and safeguards against misinformation. By doing so, we can harness social media’s ubiquity to amplify preventive mental health messages and strengthen upstream public health efforts for adolescents.

**Case Study: Historical Financial Analysis Assignment Instructions**

    **Overview**

Complete a case study of ABC Corporation. You will find the case in the case section of the text.

A formal, in-depth case study analysis requires you to utilize the entire strategic management process. Assume you are a consult asked by the ABC Corporation to analyze its external/internal environment and make strategic recommendations. You must include exhibits to support your analysis and recommendations.

    **Instructions**

The completed case study must include these components, with portions to be submitted over several modules as the
    **Case Study: Matrices Assignment**, the
**Case Study: Historical Financial Analysis Assignment**, and the
**Case Study: Projections, NPV, Compilation Assignment**.

    · Cover page (must include the company name, your name, the date of submission, and a references page; the document must follow current APA guidelines)

    · A total of 12 – 15 pages (for all three parts, combined) of narrative text, this does not include the financial statements, reference pages, or matrices

    · Reference page (follow current APA guidelines)

    · Historical Financial Statements, Proforma Financial Statements, NPV Calculations and a Cost Sheet for the strategy in an Excel document

    · Matrices, which must be exhibits/attachments in the appendix and not part of the body of the analysis (The Strategy Club has excellent templates/examples for exhibits and matrices).

    Your
**Case Study: Historical Financial Analysis Assignment** paper must include:

    1. Historical Financial Statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Statement of Cash Flows) from the 3 most current years for the firm. These should be downloaded from the SEC website. The financial statements must include horizontal (shown between the years) and vertical analysis (shown to the right of the last year of historical data).

    2. Ratio analysis for the ratios shown on Table 1 in the Guide to Case Analysis (CA) of the textbook:

    a. Profitability ratios

    b. Liquidity ratios

    c. Leverage ratios

    d. Activity ratios

    e. Price-to-earnings ratio

    f. The changes between years are included in the calculations.

    3. Competitor ratios to compare with the ratios that were calculated in item 2. These should be included on the same tab as the ratio analysis for the firm.

    4. Financial analysis should include comparisons to the firm’s main competitor as well as to the industry. How does the financial position of the firm influence the strategic direction of the company? This section should not be used to define what each ratio is rather it should clearly provide analysis based on the calculations as to the strategic choices and implications of the firm’s financial position. A compare and contrast with the main competitor should be included in this section of narrative.

Place the results of Case Study: Historical Financial Analysis, in the Case Study: Historical Financial Analysis submission link in Module 6: Week 6.

**Options to Download SEC Financial Data into Excel Spreadsheets:**

There are two ways to pull financial data in Excel format from the SEC site, depending on how recent the information is.

**OPTION 1: For filings that are a year or two old**

    · Go to
    www.sec.gov.

    · In the Filings & Forms box, click on
    **Search for Company Filings**.

    · Then click on
**Company or fund name, ticker symbol, CIK (Central Index Key), file number, state, country, or SIC (Standard Industrial Classification)**.

    · Enter either a company name or ticker symbol into the appropriate box. (Note: it may be easier to use a ticker symbol because this guarantees you have the right company.) Choose
    **Find Companies**.

    ![](https://www.sweetstudy.com/questions/case-study-2-20951769)

    · On the next screen, select the appropriate filing or filter by filing type (10-K).

    · Newer filings have two button options:
    **Documents** and
    **Interactive Data**. Select
**Interactive Data** if that is an option.

    ![](https://www.sweetstudy.com/questions/case-study-2-20951769)

    · Once in Interactive Data, select financial statements. A drop-down box will appear in the left-hand column. Select the statement that you want. Then, click
**View Excel Document** above the left-hand column.

    ·

    ![](https://www.sweetstudy.com/questions/case-study-2-20951769)

    **OPTION 2: For older filings**

    · Follow the steps in Option 1 to get to the company filing screen. Since
**Interactive Data** will not be available, click on
    **Documents**.

    · There will be several options. Find the link containing the full filing. This is usually the first link but not always. For a 10-K filing look for a link titled
    **10-K**.

    ![](https://www.sweetstudy.com/questions/case-study-2-20951769)

    · Open Excel. Click on the
**Data** tab in the ribbon and select
**From Web**, the second icon from the left.

    · A web browser will open up. Copy the link from the company 10-K and insert it into the
**New Web Query** browser that opened up. Click
**Go** to be taken to the filing. (Note: The browser sometimes runs slow.)

    · Find the financial tables you wish to import. Above the tables you should see a yellow box with a black arrow pointing to the right. Click on each box corresponding with each financial table that you wish to import. The box will turn green with a check mark.

    · Once all desired tables are selected, click the
**Import** button at the bottom right of the web browser.

    · You will be taken back into the Excel spreadsheet with an
**Import Data** box open. To import the data, select either a cell in the existing worksheet or
    **New Worksheet** and click
    **OK.**

    · Data will be uploaded into Excel.
_Note that this process does a poor job of formatting the tables._ Brackets indicating negativity and currency symbols are often placed in adjacent cells, necessitating manual entry. For year-over-year analysis across multiple filings be careful to ensure that financial sheet items line up with one another.

Instructions: At its core, pathology is the study of disease. Diseases occur for many reasons. But some, such as cystic fibrosis and Parkinson’s Disease, occur because of alterations that prevent cells from functioning normally.
Understanding of signals and symptoms of alterations in cellular processes is a critical step in diagnosis and treatment of many diseases. For the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), this understanding can also help educate patients and guide them through their treatment plans.
For this Discussion, you examine a case study and explain the disease that is suggested. You examine the symptoms reported and explain the cells that are involved and potential alterations and impacts. You must use current evidence-based resources (Primary and secondary) to support your initial posting and all responses to your colleagues. Post an explanation of the disease highlighted in the scenario you were provided. Include the following in your explanation:
    – Which genetic mutations are commonly associated with the disease?
    – Why is the patient presenting with the specific symptoms described?
    – Discuss the pathophysiological mechanisms of the disease in detail.
    – What do the blood test results tell us about the disease and disease progression?
