    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    ## Please read all source attached 11 Slide powerpoint > The film for this porject is **Jurassic Park**

    ## In this assignment, you will continue to develop your understanding of the hero's journey. You will review the lesson that covers modern approaches to and adaptations of the hero's journey. This project will take a deep dive into the hero’s journey as seen in modern media and will demonstrate the continuity of the hero’s journey as a universal narrative template.

    4. Complete a presentation (PowerPoint, Keynote, or [Canva](https://www.canva.com/)) explaining how your selected film fits aspects of the Hero’s Journey outlined by Vogler or Freytag’s Pyramid.

Your presentation must address the following:

**Slide 1:** Film name, your name, date. Include an image of the movie poster.

**Slides 2-4:** Select from the 14 archetypes we discussed in Week Two and identify archetypes for at least three characters in the film. Then write one paragraph that discusses traits and actions that reflect the archetype for each character. Include an image of each character.

**Slides 5-9:** Choose one structure (Vogler’s or Freytag’s) that fits the film more closely. Analyze how the film aligns with this structure, discussing at least five steps from Vogler’s Hero’s Journey or the five plot points from Freytag’s Pyramid. Each step should be discussed in about a paragraph and use specific examples from the film to support your analysis. Include at least three relevant images to illustrate key moments or concepts.

**Slide 10:** Write one paragraph and discuss the hero’s personal transformation. Identify at least one major turning point that contributed to their growth. Include at least one image of the hero.

**Slide 11:** Works cited page. You must use MLA format to cite all references. This should include all course materials that were used during research and completion of the presentation, the LAFS library source from which a supporting quote was obtained, and any other outside sources that were consulted during your research. Please refer to the MLA citation guide in the course resources module for proper formatting.

    **Required Supporting Quotes:**

Within your presentation, you must include two supporting quotes from any of the course materials and one supporting quote from an outside source found in the [LAFS library](https://lafilm.libguides.com/startguide/). The quotes must be woven into your statements. For example:

    > _Vogler's Practical Guide states, "insert quote here", and we see this when the hero does X/Y/Z or the hero faces X/Y/Z, etc._

For tips on searching in the LAFS library, check out this [tutorial](https://lafilm.libguides.com/tutorials/libsearch).

(Suggested library search terms: The Hero with a Thousand Faces, The Hero's Journey, Joseph Campbell, Christopher Vogler, Gustav Freytag, Freytag's Pyramid, The Monomyth, Mythology)

Formatting Note: Bullets/Lists are not acceptable. All prompts should be addressed in complete sentences.

    Part 1

In a brief writing of 200-250 words, complete ONE of the following options:

    Option 1
Name at least one of your favorite active reading techniques,
other than the ones listed in the readings, and explain what the technique entails, how and when you learned about it, what its benefits are for you, and why you would recommend it to other readers.

    Option 2
Choose at least two active reading techniques explain why you chose them, what differences you have noticed while practicing with those techniques, which one(s) you will continue using and why.

Please, title your post with "Option 1," or "Option 2."

Keep in mind that if you use someone else's words, definitions, ideas, whether via quoting, or paraphrasing, or summarizing, you are required to cite them and follow the MLA or APA format in doing so to prevent plagiarism. This means that some of your writing in the document will include in-text citations and that your list of sources will be included within a Works Cited or Reference page at the end of your writing.

    Part 2

Design a document (brochure, flyer, poster, infographic, or bookmark) for other students at the institution to help them understand and implement active reading strategies. Make sure you cite your source (the textbook) as needed.

**For your document, include the following:**

    1. List the active reading strategies identified in the texts you read for this module.
**Make sure you cite the textbook according to APA or MLA format.** Decide which ones you will include in the document you design to teach fellow SLU students about active reading.

    2. Decide the design, style, and platform (brochure, bookmark, flyer, poster, infographic) for your teaching aid.
You may use a template (Hint: Microsoft Word, for example, comes with many creative templates to get you started; Canva, or you may use AI to design your material. Make sure your prompts in AI are screenshot and placed in the reference page or Works Cited page).
    – What color scheme, font make sense for what you are trying to do? Make sure you explain in your narrative why you chose the colors you did.

    3. Decide what content goes where.
    – Remember that we read from left to right, so with this in mind choose the placement of images and text based upon importance.

    4. Annotate your final document, justifying or explaining the choices you made in it by providing at least 8-10 separate annotations on a separate page.

    5. Upload your document with the title of the genre you chose for it: bookmark, flyer, poster, brochure, infographic.
