    **Prepare**

Before you get started on designing your own action research study, you need to understand the basics of action research, how it differs from traditional research, and why this approach to research can add value to your practices as an early childhood professional. You also need to understand the ways in which action research can support positive outcomes for your young children and their families. To prepare for this discussion, read the following:

    1) Chapters 1 and 3 from the course text, Action research: A Guide for The Teacher Researcher

    2) Chapter 5 from the ebook, [_Guiding school improvement with action research_](https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/ashford-ebooks/detail.action?docID=3002152 "Guiding school improvement with action research").

    3) [_How to Do Action Research in Your Classroom_](https://www.naeyc.org/sites/default/files/globally-shared/downloads/PDFs/resources/pubs/How%20to%20do%20Action%20Research.pdf)  from the National Association for the Education of Young Children website

    **Write**

Based on what you have learned from these sources, please respond to the following:

    a) Compare and contrast the goals of action research and traditional research.

    b) Justify why action research is valuable to early childhood education professionals.

    c) Provide one specific example of how it can make a positive difference in a classroom, center, school, or any other educational setting or organization.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

Students will select a vignette about a family with a child eligible to receive early intervention services. Students will complete a blank IFSP form will all relevant information based on the case of Kim. You can add any information that may not be addressed in the case study.

Students are then required to determine the family's resources, priorities, and concerns and then generate long-term outcomes (functional goals) and short-term goals for the IFSP. Furthermore, students will write a separate narrative including the following points:

Based on the information students have about the family, they will list their resources, priorities, and concerns related to enhancing the child's development. Students will write two long-term outcomes (functional goals) for the child and family. This is a statement of what the family would like to see happen as a result of early intervention services. The outcomes may be developmental goals for the child or be related to the family's ability to enhance the child's development. The outcome must be functionally stated, in family terms, and measurable.

For each long-term outcome, students will write three short-term goals. Short-term goals are building blocks that lead to the achievement of the long-term outcome. These goals should be written from the perspective of what the child should be able to accomplish, should represent an end result, and should be functional and measurable.

    3. What are the effects of bullying in school?

    4. How does stress impact one’s health

    Citation:

In-text citation Smoking has been seen as dangerous “to” (Albert, John).

A paraphrase must use signal phrases to distinguish your work from the source’s idea. For example, John D. supports this idea when researchers have found. Punctuation goes at the end of the paraphrase, and then you have a parenthetical citation.

You also need a work cited page. If you have 4 ½ pages, then the works cited page should be on page 6

For an individual page on a Web site, list the author or alias if known, followed by an indication of the referenced page or article. Usually, the title of the page or article appears in a header at the top of the page. Follow this with the information covered above for all websites. If the publisher is the same as the website name, only list it once.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    **The Scenario**

Everyone in your life has developed  subjective culture, just like you have. Select someone in your life who  you will analyze based on what you have read in chapter four. You will  be doing a comparison, just like I did in the Instructional material  section.

In the first section, identify the  person, how you know them, and what are some of the easily identifiable  characteristics of them and of you. These characteristics need to be  given in comparison, like this…. He is ______, but I am ______ OR We  both _______. Also, in this first paragraph, you need to include an  outside source. Find a source that describes your type of  relationship. Maybe it is best friends, significant other, mother/child,  boss/employee, and share some insight you gained about this type of  relationship from the reading of the source. Make sure that you cite  this source at the end of the information you borrow from that  source. Use a ( ) in the text, and put a full MLA citation at the end of  this analysis.

Then, in the second paragraph, do a  comparative analysis

    1. You must number your comparative points just like I did (for the couple in the example).
    2. You must include a minimum of ten bold terms in your analysis sentences.
    3. You must bold those ten terms and use them correctly.
    4. You must include ( ) after each term you use to identify the page number where the term is found.
    5. You must put a full textbook citation at the end of the analysis.

Your purpose for this analysis is to  discover that you have subjectivity in your own cultural formation just  as the person you selected for the analysis does. As ethical  communicators, we need to be aware of the formation of culture within  different individuals and how their culture can have an impact on the  way you interact with each other – positive and/or negative.
