    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    To Kill a Mockingbird

    – ## ToKillaMockingbird.docx

    – MaycombTKAMMap1.jpeg

    **## ToKillaMockingbird.docx**

question: In three pages, analyze the implications of knowing the backstory to To Kill a Mockingbird, as presented by historian Joseph Crespino through his extensive primary source research. Does knowing the real life story of A.C. Lee and the historical context behind Maycomb, Alabama, change our understanding of To Kill a Mockingbird, its narrative, and key themes? If so, how does that knowledge and context alter that understanding? If not, what enables the story to continue to stand on its own?

In other words, the big question you are addressing here is: How important is historical context to the way we read, think about, and understand a piece of literature?

    Guidelines

Do not use outside sources. Only use the materials provided in our class. The paper must be submitted through the Turnitin tool, which is enabled here. I will be looking closely at AI usage. The paper is to consist of your words, thoughts, and analysis not those of others.

Your essay must have in-text citations based on your preferred style (MLA, APA, Chicago). See this resource for details and examples of in-text citations:
    Links to an external site.](https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/resources.html)

Do not provide a title page or works cited page at the end of your essay. When I speak of MLA, APA, and Chicago styles, I am referring primarily to the use of citations within the paper.

Do not use first person. Write only in the third person.

Work diligently to stay in the active voice rather than devolving into excessive use of passive voice. To stay in the active voice as much as possible, use strong action verbs and make sparing use of forms of "to be" (was, were).

Use italics for titles of works such as
_Atticus Finch: The Biography_ and To Kill a Mockingbird.

    Kendrick vs. Drake.

    – ## Drake.docx

    **## Drake.docx**

Conflict is central to narrative. Conflicts present problems, challenges, disagreements, and the potential for resolution and redemption. Every story needs a conflict. Conflict is found in all forms of popular culture and can take many different forms. Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. Archie vs. Maude on All in the Family. Alabama vs. Auburn on the football field (see example below). Dolly Parton vs. Jolene. More recently, Kendrick vs. Drake.

In light of this unit's materials on pro wrestling and the Hulk Hogan-Andre the Giant rivalry, write a two-page reflection on a conflict in popular culture that you find to be compelling. The conflict can be from an older piece of popular culture or it can come from something more recent.

The key questions to address are: What are/were the main sources of this conflict? What makes the conflict intriguing? Does the conflict have distinct "heels and babyfaces?" Was the conflict resolved? If so, how and why? If not, why was it not resolved?

Use at least two written sources/articles found online. Do not use general information sites like Wikipedia. And, without question, do not use AI. Seek out legitimate and, if available and helpful, articles with some scholarly credibility. For instance, if you were to choose the Iron Bowl rivalry between Auburn and Alabama (not eligible since I'm using it for an example), the following article from the Encyclopedia of Alabama would be a great, reputable source:
    Links to an external site.](https://encyclopediaofalabama.org/article/iron-bowl/).

Then, incorporate at least one visual/multimedia source to analyze and illuminate your personal reflection. Using the Iron Bowl example, YouTube footage from past games and documentaries would be terrific sources.

As this is a personal reflection, you can write in first person and take a less formal approach than when writing a standard essay. Draw relevant connections with our materials on pro wrestling when useful.

I will be doing Kendrick vs. Drake

    **Case Study: Matrices Assignment Instructions**

    **Overview**

Complete a case study of ABC Corporation (your instructor will assign the specific company for the case study at the beginning of Module 2: Week 2) . You will find the case in the case section of the text.

A formal, in-depth case study analysis requires you to utilize the entire strategic management process. Assume you are a consultant asked by the ABC Corporation to analyze its external/internal environment and make strategic recommendations. You must include exhibits to support your analysis and recommendations.

    **Instructions**

The completed case study must include these components with portions to be submitted over Modules: Weeks 5 & 6, and a final compilation in Module 8: Week 8.

    · Cover page (must include the company name, your name, the date of submission, and a references page; the document must follow current APA guidelines)

    · A total of 12 – 15 pages (for all three parts, combined) of narrative text, this does not include the financial statements, reference pages, or matrices

    · Reference page (follow current APA guidelines)

    · Historical Financial Statements, Projected Financial Statements, NPV Calculations and a Cost Sheet for the strategy in an
    **Excel** document

    · Matrices, which must be exhibits/attachments in the appendix and not part of the body of the analysis (The Strategy Club has excellent templates/examples for exhibits and matrices).

    Your paper must include:

    1. Existing mission, objectives, and strategies.

    2. A new mission statement (include the number of the component in parenthesis before addressing that component).
Great mission statements address these 9 components:

    · Customers: Who are the firm’s customers?

    · Products or services: What are the firm’s major products or services?

    · Markets: Geographically, where does the firm compete?

    · Technology: Is the firm technologically current?

    · Concern for survival, growth, and profitability: Is the firm committed to growth and financial soundness?

    · Philosophy: What are the basic beliefs, values, aspirations, and ethical priorities of the firm?

    · Self-concept: What is the firm’s distinctive competence or major competitive advantage?

    · Concern for public image: Is the firm responsive to social, community, and environmental concerns?

    · Concern for employees: Are employees a valuable asset of the firm?

    3. Analysis of the firm’s existing business model.

    4. SWOT Matrix and Analysis (comes from researching the firm, industry, and competitors). It is important to know the difference between causes and effects in the SWOT analysis. Causes are important, not effects. Focus on internal and external analysis when completing this matrix. This matrix should be based on research and contain quantifiable metrics. There should be 8-10 items in each quadrant, with research support for each item.

    5. Once the SWOT Matrix and Analysis is created, construct the TOWS also known as the Bivariate Strategy Matrix.

    6. Group Map – create this based on the firm as a whole or a specific SBU, clearly identify which method you chose and why.

    7. Competitive forces analysis, use PESTLE and Porter’s Five Forces as the foundation for this analysis. Clearly identify the factors that are impacting the firm, research is required to support the position taken in your narrative.
