    **CONFLICT MANAGEMENT**

Conflicts can occur anywhere in the project and with anyone. Some conflicts are severe while others are easily solvable. In the past, project managers avoided conflicts when possible. Today, we believe that conflicts can produce beneficial results if the conflicts are managed correctly.

There are numerous methods available to project managers for the resolution of conflicts. The methods selected may vary depending on the severity of the conflict, the person with whom the conflict exists and his/her level of authority, the life‐cycle phase of the project, the priority of the project, and the relative importance of the project as seen by senior management.

    **Facilities Scheduling at Mayer Manufacturing**

Eddie Turner was elated with the good news that he was being promoted to section supervisor in charge of scheduling all activities in the new engineering research laboratory. The new laboratory was a necessity for Mayer Manufacturing. The engineering, manufacturing, and quality control directorates were all in desperate need of a new testing facility. Upper‐level management felt that this new facility would alleviate many of the problems that previously existed.

The new organizational structure (as shown in Figure I) required a change in policy over use of the laboratory. The new section supervisor, on approval from his department manager, would have full authority for establishing priorities for the use of the new facility. The new policy change was a necessity because upper‐level management felt that there would be inevitable conflict among manufacturing, engineering, and quality control.

After one month of operations, Eddie Turner was finding his job impossible, so he has a meeting with Gary Whitehead, his department manager.

**Eddie:** “I'm having a hell of a time trying to satisfy all of the department managers. If I give engineering prime‐time use of the facility, then quality control and manufacturing say that I'm playing favorites. Imagine that! Even my own people say that I'm playing favorites with other directorates. I just can't satisfy everyone.”

    **FIGURE I**

    Mayer Manufacturing organizational structure

**Gary:** “Well, Eddie, you know that this problem comes with the job. You'll get the job done.”

**Eddie:** “The problem is that I'm a section supervisor and have to work with department managers. These department managers look down on me like I'm their servant. If I were a department manager, then they'd show me some respect. What I'm really trying to say is that I would like you to send out the weekly memos to these department managers telling them of the new priorities. They wouldn't argue with you like they do with me. I can supply you with all the necessary information. All you'll have to do is to sign your name.”

**Gary:** “Determining the priorities and scheduling the facilities is your job, not mine. This is a new position and I want you to handle it. I know you can because I selected you. I do not intend to interfere.”

During the next two weeks, the conflicts got progressively worse. Eddie felt that he was unable to cope with the situation by himself. The department managers did not respect the authority delegated to him by his superiors. For the next two weeks, Eddie sent memos to Gary in the early part of the week asking whether Gary agreed with the priority list. There was no response to the two memos. Eddie then met with Gary to discuss the deteriorating situation.

**Eddie:**“Gary, I've sent you two memos to see if I'm doing anything wrong in establishing the weekly priorities and schedules. Did you get my memos?”

**Gary:**“Yes, I received your memos. But as I told you before, I have enough problems to worry about without doing your job for you. If you can't handle the work, let me know and I'll find someone who can.”

Eddie returned to his desk and contemplated his situation. Finally, he made a decision. Next week he was going to put a signature block under his for Gary to sign, with carbon copies for all division managers. “Now let's see what happens,” Eddie said.

    **## Task3Scenario.docx**

    **Task 3 Scenario**

    **The Situation**

Customers of the Owasis Drinks Company (ODC) are posting on social media about several issues, including dissatisfaction with the Natural Energy product and frustration with redeeming promotions. Moreover, consumers are voicing their concerns that Natural Energy is not natural enough or not strong enough to provide the promised energy benefits. As a result, the senior management team has asked you, as a product manager, to coordinate with the Customer Service team and other departments to address these customer concerns.

**Customer Experience and the Brand Strategy**

Natural Energy is positioned as a natural energy drink in a market where most energy drinks have artificial ingredients. Moreover, Natural Energy, unlike the category leader, Blue Danube, is made in the United States by a U.S. company with a long legacy in the Northeast region. However, there seems to be a disconnect between the brand promise and the customer’s perception.

One of the main concerns is that the company is primarily using social media for one-way communication of sales promotions without developing brand engagement with the value proposition. Similarly, there is the idea from senior management that the company should centralize the customer interaction under the umbrella of a Customer Management department that will eventually be part of either the Marketing department or the Customer Service department.

    **Customer Service Complaints**

Natural Energy has a toll-free number to receive and address customer complaints. The number is printed on every can and included in all advertising copy. The toll-free number is managed by a team of two customer service specialists from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Outside of business hours, customers can leave a message that will be responded to promptly the next business day.

However, it was found that most calls are spam or people dialing the wrong number. Of all the calls received each day, it is estimated that fewer than a dozen are legitimate calls in which customer complaints are being addressed by the two customer service specialists. Additionally, the company has a customer service email that the same customer service specialists manage. Most emails are either responded to promptly or forwarded to the appropriate department. Most emails received, a few dozen per day, are from retailers or stores asking for a product return or information on promotions, deliveries, or shipping issues.

To improve the customer service experience, the company invested in a new cloud-based CRM (customer relationship management) software that will allow the integration of voice and email communications as well as capture interactions in social media channels. With this software, there can be more efficient routing and tracking of customer issues and better measurement of the customer experience. Additionally, the marketing team is excited touse the new CRM as a way to build and track repeat customers to build loyalty and, ideally, brand advocates.

However, six months after implementing the new software, there have not been any perceived or reported improvements in the customer experience or differences in the number and type of customer calls and emails. The social media sentiment with regard to Natural Energy continues to trend more negative than positive.

    **Social Media**

The company hired a social media specialist a year ago. This person is responsible for managing all social media channels and coordinating promotions through social media. The specialist reports to the Marketing department and interacts with the Customer Service team on an as-needed basis.

Recently, the company hired a social media intern and a community manager. All three are tasked with improving the company’s social media presence.

    **Sales Management**

The Client Services group is part of the Corporate Sales department. There are four client service representatives that are assigned to the following:

    · key accounts

    · major accounts

    · other off-premises accounts (supermarkets, grocery stores, convenience stores, etc.)

    · on-premises accounts (restaurants, hotels, food service)

The client services representatives manage the relationship with their assigned clients. They do not interact with the end customers (consumers). Rather, they manage the relationship with the distribution channel members. Most of their work is focused on orders, returns, invoicing, addressing distribution issues, and securing more shelf space and promotions. One way the sales management teams promote their Natural Energy brand is by sponsoring events at gyms that align with the brand’s positioning and by passing out free samples in store locations or at various triathlons, marathons, and other sporting events.

    **Customer Advocate**

Some companies in the industry are reportedly creating a customer advocate role—an employee dedicated to managing customer relationships through different channels. However, it is unclear whether this person should report to the Marketing department, Sales department, or Customer Service department. Furthermore, there are concerns about whether there will be enough work for this person since the number of registered customer complaints is low.

Currently, at the ODC, there is no customer advocate role that owns the relationship with the end customer. For example, customers only reach out when they report a complaint, using the toll-free number or email. Some complaints are forwarded from the social media specialists and then sent via email to the Customer Service team. The Sales Management team forwards customer complaints that they receive from the stores to the Customer Service team.

    **Customer Personas**

Using CRM and industry data, the product marketing manager developed a persona as part of understanding Natural Energy’s customers and their experiences.

It was found that Natural Energy’s customers are young, energetic, and active. Eva is a fitness enthusiast who spends hours at the gym. Eva consumes Natural Energy on her way to the gym and in between sessions to keep her energy up and focus sharp. Figure 1 shows the customer persona for Eva:

_Figure 1: Persona profile for Eva_

    **Customer Journey Map**

There are some efforts by the Marketing department to map the customer's journey according to the different shopping and consumption occasions.

The primary purchase occasions are identified for Natural Energy’s customers below:

    a)
**Multiple (stock-up) purchases:** This occurs when active customers buy several cans of Natural Energy, primarily in a supermarket or a wholesale club, to be consumed later, such as at work or the gym.

    b)
**On-the-go:** This occurs when customers buy their product chilled in a convenience store or at the gym for immediate consumption.

    c)
**High-energy:** Another consumption opportunity comes from partygoers who buy the product as a mixer during a party or at the club. The product will not be consumed individually and will be used as a mixer with another product.

Additionally, the company has a customer service email that the same customer service specialists manage. Most emails are either responded to promptly or forwarded to the appropriate department.

    Scholastic Honesty
    Effective: 04/17/2023

It is assumed that all students are enrolled in class to learn; therefore, cheating is not an acceptable practice.
Dishonesty of any type in a course, including cheating on examinations or plagiarizing materials, can result in a grade
of “F” and may be cause for suspension and/or withdrawal from school. Plagiarism includes passing off or attempting
to pass off the ideas or writing of another person or any artificial intelligence (AI) as one’s own. Plagiarism also
includes using personal papers submitted for a prior class, a repeated class, or even work submitted at a different
    institution.

Students are prohibited from operating any type of audio or video recording device in a classroom, laboratory, or
clinical setting without prior expressed permission from the Campus President or Academic Dean. Prohibited items
include, but are not limited to: video cameras, telephones with audio or video recording capability, computers,
electronic tablets, or watches with audio or video recording capability. This is not an all-inclusive list. Violations of this
policy may lead to disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal from school.

    Student Code of Conduct
    Effective: 08/09/2024

Concorde believes strongly in promoting the development of personal, professional and social responsibility.
Concorde also believes in a humanistic approach to discipline conducive to academic pursuits. However, Concorde
recognizes that its responsibility for the protection of personal and institutional rights and property is a primary focus
of the disciplinary process. Behavior that infringes upon rights, safety or privileges, or that impedes the educational
process, is unacceptable and may lead to sanctions up to and including dismissal from the school. Courteous
behavior and professional conduct, appropriate to a business environment, is to be displayed at all times.

All students are expected to respect the rights of others and are held responsible for conforming to the laws of the
federal, local, and State governments. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the
best interests of Concorde and of the student body.

Concorde’s administration reserves the right to develop any policy or take any action(s) deemed appropriate to
maintain the safety and well-being of any or all students. Student conduct offenses may be related to persons,
property, campus operations, and welfare, and the health or safety of students, faculty and staff.

Concorde reserves the right to discipline and/or dismiss a student, visitor, or employee for any of the following
reasons: possession of firearms on campus property; failure to maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP); failure
to pay college fees and/or tuition by applicable deadlines; disruptive behavior (continued willful noncompliance,
willful and persistent profanity or vulgarity, open and/or persistent defiance of authority, and/or persistent disrespect
of personnel or students). ; posing a danger to the health or welfare of students or other members of the campus
community; theft, on or off campus; any form of assault; State and Federal drug law violations; electronic or social
media violations; or failure to comply with the policies and procedures of Concorde.

The list of examples is not intended to be all-inclusive, and Concorde reserves the right to act in the best interest of
the students, faculty, and staff and may deem actions committed by a student to be a conduct violation, although the
action does not appear on a list of examples.

Violation of the conduct policy is grounds for suspension of privileges, up to and including dismissal from the
Institution. The Campus President reserves the right to take any action(s) deemed appropriate to ensure the
immediate safety and well-being of any or all students, faculty, and staff.

Students are encouraged to share personal experiences while participating in classes at Concorde. However,
students must be aware that should they disclose to any Concorde faculty members or staff information that may
cause harm to themselves or others, faculty members and staff are required to report such information to the
Academic Dean, Director of Student Affairs, or Campus President.

Every student is subject to federal and state law and respective county and city ordinances. A student who is
convicted of any criminal offense which interferes with the orderly operation of the school or which the
administration feels would endanger members of the Concorde community shall be subject to disciplinary action.

Infringements of the Student Code of Conduct are handled by the Concorde Academic Dean, Director of Student
Affairs, and Campus President. Students have the right to request further review in accordance with the school’s
“Student Complaint & Grievance Policy” as outlined in this catalog.

If a student is dismissed from the Vocational Nursing program at either the Grand Prairie, TX or Dallas, TX campus for
any reason they will not be eligible for readmission into the Vocational Nursing program at the other campus.

Students who are dismissed for a conduct related violation are not eligible for readmission into any Concorde
    College/Institute campus.

    Abstract

My term paper will focus on the impact of emerging technologies on criminal justice

practices, specifically the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in law enforcement and its ethical

implications. As technology advances, law enforcement continues to adopt AI for everything from

predictive policing and facial recognition to data analysis. These innovations have the potential for

increased efficiency and effectiveness but create several concerns regarding privacy, bias, and

accountability. It will be debated both from a positive and negative side of the application of AI

within the criminal justice system and, in particular, how algorithmic bias may eventually

disproportionately affect minority communities by leading to unfair outcomes. The final part

provides an overview of the current regulation and legislative frameworks in which AI in law

enforcement is applied and whether these are fit to discuss the ethical and societal issues that such

technologies create. It thus advocates for a balanced approach to integrating technological

advancement without compromising civilliberties and accountability by analyzingrecent

developments in AI policing using case studies. The paper will use qualitative research methods,

including a review of scholarly articles, legal documents, and case law, to offer a holistic picture

of the correlation between AI and criminal justice. Finally, the paper is part of an ongoing debate

on the future of law enforcement in the face of rapidly advancing technology and tries to critically

examine the implications for justice and fairness such events generate in society. Therefore, this

paper is intended to join debates of balancing technological innovation with ethical concerns,

advancing some ideas on how AI can be adopted for law enforcement without compromising its

fairness, accountability, or suitability in protecting civil rights.
