Formatting your paper properly is like putting on a business suit and tie (or a dress or spiffy blazer) for a job interview. It makes a good first impression, sets the tone that you're serious, and shows that you know what's expected. The business suit doesn't mean that you have the skills to do the job; similarly, excellent formatting is not more important than the content of your paper. However, turning in a properly-formatted paper is a signal to academics that you know what's expected and are trying to communicate as a citizen of Academia.

    Directions:

Use the criteria from our writing handbook or from Purdue OWL to format a page as if you were turning it in as an MLA paper for this class. Use the paragraph above as the text of the paper. Title the paper "Suit Up: Proper Attire for Legendary Papers." Save your file as MLA Template_YOUR NAME_YOUR CLASS (i.e. MLA Template_MELDA TANNER_ENG11001) and upload it to this assignment for a grade.

You do not need to add a Works Cited page for this assignment.

    #### **Scenario**

You are the new project manager for the operations unit of Charleston General Hospital. The hospital is facing challenges of long wait times at the ED resulting in a high number of patients leaving without being seen (LWBS) and long admission holds in the ED. Upon initial assessment, you determine that the two challenges are related and are caused by inefficiencies in process flow.

    #### **Instructions**

Develop a process map to evaluate and suggest a redesign of the current challenges. Process maps are graphical depictions of a process. The process map (flow chart) shows the sequence of tasks, decisions, and all other related activities that results from inputs and outputs.

Your map should include a visual illustration of different processes that can be employed by Charleston General to improve the flow of operations in the ED. Attach a summary of the proposed changes reflected in the process map to explain how the changes can improve performance outcomes for the ED.

    **Classmate One (Amy):**

The field of educational technology is constantly evolving due to rapid advancements in technology. The foundational components in this area support the analysis of theories such as constructivism and systems theory as the field shifts away from behaviorism. Flynt (2024) asserts, the field of technology emphasizes the connections among theory, design, and application. In addition to applications, learning and knowledge are central to the field, while change remains inevitable as technology continues to shape the learning process. The hype cycle also significantly influences future designs, refinement, adaptation, training, and connections. Careers in technology-based roles include data analysts, data engineers, software developers, cybersecurity professionals, cloud engineers, IT support specialists, systems administrators, and game developers. Software engineers are responsible for troubleshooting, designing, developing, and testing software. Meanwhile, a cybersecurity analyst at Microsoft can expect to perform tasks such as monitoring and protecting computer systems, developing and implementing solutions to issues, responding to security events, and addressing security breaches.

The definition has evolved through various theories, the hype cycle, and knowledge transfer to learners. Those seeking jobs in technology must prepare to refine their roles, understand how their audience learns, and adapt to societal changes based on needs. Additionally, researching cognitive theories and behaviorism is essential to understanding how the field has historically transformed up to the present. For example, the overall learning process of humans is evaluated and analyzed to implement the necessary learning strategies to redefine technology roles. The learner and facilitator in technology are refined as the objectives for applying qualifications to these roles have changed.

The Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) is the leading professional organization in technology. As Flynt (2014) noted, the AECT continues to implement and apply design, theory, and application in the technology field while evaluating the hype cycle to inform its study. This organization facilitates learning and theory while emphasizing research, data, and improvements necessary to keep up with the ever-changing role of technology. The job roles within this organization include members who create and develop up-to-date technology and those who research and provide data to support the communication and applications of developers and facilitators in the technology fields. Necessary skills to be part of this organization include data analysis, critical thinking, trend prediction, examination of learning theories, effective communication, and leadership skills. Khan Academy founder Sal Khan began his journey in technology software from a small office aimed at supporting student learning, innovating his goals for this software (Khan Academy, 2025).  He maintained high standards in his vision to provide free tools to students and teachers while emphasizing personalized math, economics, computing, and science learning. Bill and Melinda Gates, founders of Microsoft, supported and funded his mission, allowing him to hire his longtime math competitor and friend to join him as he expanded his online technology dream. Sal believes everyone has the right to a free and personalized education, allowing donors to contribute to his online platform so parents and students can continue accessing his site for free (Khan Academy, 2025).  He currently offers a ChatGPT app that provides real-time feedback and interactive tutoring for students needing extra help in math or science or requiring assistance solving a given problem. Like Sal, every child and parent should have an equal opportunity to gain access to tutoring, learning, and resources to expand their knowledge, address learning gaps, and enrich foundational skills.

    Definition of Educational Technology

Educational technology refers to the exploration and moral utilization of advancing learning and improving performance by creating, applying, and administering relevant technological procedures and resources (Flynt, 2014). This definition emphasizes a focus on the field's concern with technology utilization in education as well as with the ethical mandate that accompanies its deployment.

Changes in the Definition Over Time

Educational technology, officially defined in 1963, has transgressed from focusing on controlling learning and instructional messages to emphasizing facilitating learning and extending the learning experience through technology (Flynt, 2014). Initial definitions of e-learning focused on instructional design and behavioral learning theories; however, more recent definitions include constructivist approaches, stressing learner-centered education and digital technologies. The field is moving away from simply using technology as a means of content delivery and toward an even more expansive vision of improving learning experiences.

    Leading Professional Organization

The Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) is the leading professional organization in the field. Through research, conferences, and publications, AECT has played a significant role in the definition and progression of educational technology (Flynt, 2014). It publishes journals, like "Educational Technology Research" and "Development and Tech Trends," which have an impact on practitioners and researchers in the discipline.

    Careers in Educational Technology

Educational technology careers include instructional designers, e-learning specialists, learning experience designers, educational software developers, technology integration specialists, and online course developers. These individuals are found across all sectors K-12 and higher education, corporate learning and development, healthcare, and government (Flynt, 2014). They focus on developing instructional materials, integrating digital tools in the classroom, assessing technology in educational interventions, and researching evidence-based teaching methods.

    Influential Educational Technologist

B.F. Skinner is one of the most significant personalities in educational technology, and he created programmed instruction based on his operant conditioning theory. Wanting to focus on the behavioral aspect of learning rather than the cognitive aspect, Skinner developed teaching machines, which formed the basis for modern adaptive learning systems and computer-based learning (Flynt, 2014). His pedagogical practices focused on systematic sequential learning and immediate feedback, sailing forward with the same ideas found in modern e-learning platforms and gamified learning experiences. Skinner's pervasive influence glows across contemporary instructional design principles and the application of learning analytics to tailor education to learner needs.

    **Module Seven Discussion Forum**

Post your participation post for the week in this forum.  Make sure to read the "
_Discussion participation requirements_" section of the syllabus before posting anything in this forum, and use the
_"Checklist for responses to discussion questions_" I provided in this area of the course to help you. The
minimum length requirement for your responses to the discussion questions in order to earn any credit is 600 words (does not include references).
**Not surprisingly, the most effective responses to discussion questions well-exceed the minimum.** The minimum length for each of your replies to classmates in order to earn any credit is 150 words.

**IMPORTANT –  In order to avoid problems with plagiarism, it is essential that you cite and reference all of the information you present in your analysis. But this is really easy to do! In-text citations must include author, year of publication,**
**and page number. APA recommends but does not require including page numbers in summarized or paraphrased information taken from sources. But in this course, we will follow the APA recommendation and include page numbers in ALL citations, for both direct quotes and paraphrased information. Don't forget to put direct quotes in quotation marks.**

With regard to references at the end of your posts, here is information to help you with your references directly from the APA.

Using concepts/ideas from three of the theorists we covered in Module 7, provide
**five examples (total)** from current times in the U.S. to show how the ideas apply.

    A –
**Fully describe** one important idea/concept from
each of the three theorists you have chosen for the analysis.

B – Apply these three ideas/concepts to specific information about current society (the 5 examples). There must be at least one connection to modern society for each of the three theorists.
Draw explicit connections to the theories.

    **Label each section.**

In Part A, information on the three theorists must be presented from both the writings by the theorists in the textbook
and other assigned material for this week (no non-assigned information for Part A).

In doing Part B, in addition to information from Part A, you must also include information on the current society from at least two outside sources. The outside sources can be but need not be from academic sources. They must, however, be credible sources.

    Module 7: Overview

In Module 7, our main focus this week will be on gender and sexuality. As you will see, both the concepts and how they are articulated in society are far more complicated than at first might appear. And if you have been following the news, you recognize that American society is currently engaged in a series of social and political struggles to define, understand, control, and liberate sexuality.

    Module 7: Objectives

At the conclusion of this learning module students will be able to:

    · Describe the major ideas and arguments in the work of Gilman, Smith, Butler, and Connell pertaining to sex and gender.

    · Critique the work of each of these theorists.

    · Analyze the work of all these theorists with regard to implications for public policy.

    ## **Module 7: Things to do**
