Please identify if the different scenarios are examples of positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement and punishment.  Also, for classical conditioning, for each scenario, identify the Unconditioned Stimulus, unconditioned response, the conditioned stimulus and the conditioned response.

    **## J.Moorelearningassignment24.docx**

    **Applying Classical Conditioning**

Classical conditioning is a form of associative learning, learning produced by the pairing of stimuli and responses in time and place. It contributes to likes and dislikes, emotional reactions, and reflex-like responses to things. Below, explain the situation being described in terms of classical conditioning. For each description, identify or suggest the US, UR, CS, CR, as well as the principles likely to be at work.

    1. While caring for a friend’s dog, you notice that it displays a fear-like posture as you roll up a newspaper. You try this several times more and become convinced that this dog is generally afraid of rolled up newspapers.

    2. Joan, an animal trainer, has been phobic about monkeys since an earlier attack. However, because of the money, she has agreed to work with monkeys for a movie studio. At first, just going anywhere near cages makes Joan tense, sweaty, and apprehensive. Lately, though, things have changed. Working with such cuddly, affectionate, human-like creatures is causing Joan to wonder why she ever felt such extreme distress.

    3. At a red light, Bob and Fred automatically tensed and felt chills when they heard the screech of tires behind them. Later, while watching a car race, Bob remarked how the screeching of tires was having little effect then. Fred agreed and wondered why they reacted at all, because neither had as much as a dent on his driving record.

    4. Early in their relationship, the mere sight of Donna excited Jack. This gradually died out, however, as Donna behaved tolerantly but indifferently. When the relationship ended, Jack was bored with Donna and didn’t even think about her for the next year. Now, he was surprised at how excited he was becoming as he saw Donna through the window of a bus.

    5. Bill couldn’t ever remember being so sick and nauseated. He would never go to that restaurant again, and he would never again eat chicken. All he could think about was the good dinner his mother would prepare for his homecoming. As he entered the kitchen, be became flushed and felt nauseated when he saw the golden brown turkey sitting on the table.

    MAE 214 – Spring 2025

Project #1 – Fast Acting Clamp Assembly

Due: Thursday, March 20th, 2025 by 11:59 p.m. via Canvas

Problem Statement: You are working as a Design Engineer in a manufacturing facility where

the automation and material handling plays a major role in the line assembly. Your

manager/supervisor has assigned you a task of lifting component(s) from a conveyer belt. You

have been provided parts (SolidWorks CAD files) only. You are required to understand the

mechanism and put the parts together to make an Assembly so the mechanism can later be put

together by a team of technicians working in a mass production line. Be an engineer and using

SolidWorks create the Assembly and amend it as needed to create the properly functioning Fast

Acting Clamp Mechanism. Please refer to the figures shown below as well as the Functioning

    Clamp demonstration video (mp4 file).

    Figure 1- Isometric View

    Figure 2 – Right View

    Figure 3 – Exploded View

    Amendments:

These amendments can help you successfully complete your Project. Each amendment has a

video associated to it. Make sure to watch the videos as they will be of great help in achieving

    each necessary amendment.

    – Make sure that the assembly moves properly (Screw mate between Shaft and Hinge B).

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQPtU6i4jGQ

Note: The screw of the assembly has a cosmetic thread but is mated in a similar way

to that of a normal screw. Align your fasteners and then use the faces with the

cosmetic threads to create the screw mate.

    – Make sure parts have reduced interferences.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvDhv7os5D8

Note: In the case of the screw assembly interferences shouldn’t be more than 0.02 in3,

in all other cases interferences should be no more than 0.01 in3.

Expert Tip: Use Hinge B as your main reference and from there align all your pins

using a midplane to make them centrally aligned with respect to the midplane of

Hinge B. This will ensure proper alignment of all your fasteners in the center.

    Further Considerations:

    • There are several pin types (make sure to place them in their appropriate location – see Figure

    3 – Exploded View).

    • Remember that one of the parts in the assembly should be fixed. We suggest fixing the right

support and thus we suggest that’s the first part you include in your assembly.

    • All parts other than the right support must float, with their respective positions defined using

    the assembly mates.

    • Use a Limit mate (Limit Distance or Limit Angle) to control the assembly’s range of motion

to match the movement demonstrated in the provided video (Extra-Credit).

    • The grip must remain vertical throughout the range of motion.

    • All pins and hinges must be centered with respect to the two supports.

    • You may not use the “Lock” mate, but you may select the option to lock rotation in a

Concentric mate to fully define a cylindrical component (pin) with no other useable features.

    • The handle must be centered with respect to the shaft.

    Project Submission:

You will submit a Zipped file which should include your Assembly file and all your Assembly

Part files using the following convention:

Project_1_Last_Name by the submission date detailed above.

Instructions on how to Unzip Project Files and Save Assembly

The folder provided with part files should be downloaded and unzipped before starting with your

    assembly. Follow these steps:

Step 1.- Create a new folder (you can name it – Project_1_Last_Name).

    Step 2.- Download part file.

Step 3.- Unzip file and Extract All Files.

    Step 3a.- Ignore MacOS folder.

Step 4.- Save extracted part files into your Project_1_Last_Name folder.

Step 5.- Go to SolidWorks create Assembly and save assembly in your Project_1_Last_Name

    folder.

Step 6.- Once you’ve completed your assembly Compress (ZIP) your Project_1_Last_Name

folder (which will contain your part files and assembly) and submit on Canvas.

Note: If you only submit your assembly file, your assembly won’t work when opened for

    grading in SolidWorks.
