    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    Scenario
You are working as a cybersecurity analyst at FinSecure Corp, a midsize financial organization. A recent malware incident has prompted a comprehensive review of the company's incident response procedures and network security architecture. FinSecure operates primarily in an on-premises environment with some remote users connecting via VPN. As part of this review, you have been asked to evaluate how the incident was handled, assess the network architecture for vulnerabilities, and recommend adjustments to firewall and intrusion detection system (IDS) configurations to prevent future threats.
Refer to the attached "Incident and Network Security Artifacts" in the Supporting Documents section.
    Requirements
    A.  Evaluate the organization's response to the security incident by doing the following:
    1.  Identify **three** actions the organization took in response to the incident.
    2.  Evaluate the effectiveness of _each_ of the **three** actions from part A1 using a recognized incident response framework (e.g., NIST, SANS, ISO).
    3.  Recommend **two** improvements to the organization’s incident response procedure that would strengthen detection, containment, or recovery efforts in future incidents, and justify why _each_ recommendation would improve the organization’s incident response effectiveness.
    B.  Analyze the provided network architecture diagram and firewall configuration by doing the following:
    1.  Identify **three** vulnerabilities, design flaws, or misconfigurations that create or enable security risks in the network setup.
    2.  Recommend a secure network design or remediation strategy for _each_ of the **three** identified issues in part B1, and justify why _each_ recommendation would improve network security.
    3.  Explain how _each_ recommendation in part B2 would improve the network's ability to resist or detect threats and support the confidentiality, integrity, or availability (CIA) of information.
    C.  Review the existing firewall and IDS rule sets by doing the following:
    1.  Identify **two** weaknesses or gaps in the existing firewall or IDS rule sets that create or could allow security risks.
    2.  Explain how _each_ weakness or gap identified in part C1 could allow known threats to exploit the network. Support your explanation with evidence from the provided artifacts.
    3.  Propose **two** updated or additional firewall or IDS rules to address the weaknesses identified in part C1, and justify how _each_ proposed rule would improve network security and help defend against the threats discussed in part C2.
    D.  Acknowledge sources, using in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.
    E.  Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.

Finding Common Ground: Building Consensus with Families in Conflict

Effective collaboration with families doesn't always mean agreement — it means

working through differences with respect, transparency, and a shared focus on the

    student.

5 Practical Tips for Navigating Conflict with Families

    1. Listen Actively: Before responding, ensure the family feels heard. Use affirming

language like, 'I understand this is frustrating.'

    2. Assume Positive Intent: Recognize that families are advocating for their child out of

love and concern. Respond without defensiveness.

    3. Clarify and Restate: Rephrase concerns to confirm understanding: 'So you're

concerned that…' This shows empathy and builds trust.

    4. Invite Partnership: Ask, 'How do you think we can work together to solve this?' This

empowers families as part of the solution.

    5. Follow Up Promptly: Document agreements and send a follow-up email to reinforce

    transparency and commitment.

Bonus Strategy: Bring in a Neutral Facilitator

If collaboration has broken down, consider involving a trained mediator, school

psychologist, or family liaison to help rebuild trust.

Adapted from family engagement and conflict resolution strategies used in inclusive

    school settings.

    WHAT IS

Every child reacts to trauma in their own way. What feels scary or overwhelming to one child
might not affect another in the same way. Trauma can come from a single upsetting event,
ongoing stress, or at the hands of those children trust. It’s important to recognize the kinds of
experiences that can be traumatic to understand their impact and better support children. To
understand the impact of trauma on children, youth, and families, it’s helpful to understand
the difference between acute, chronic, and complex trauma.

    ### **Assignment 1: Mediation Role-Play Script or Flowchart**

    #### **Sample Scenario: Family-School Disagreement on Behavior Intervention Plan**

    **Student**:
_Susan_, age 7, is a second-grader who receives special education services under the category of Emotional or Behavioral Disorders (EBD). She has a history of trauma related to domestic instability and was recently placed with a kinship caregiver (her aunt).

**Setting**: Susan’s inclusive general education classroom.

**Concern**: The school recently developed a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) after several incidents of classroom disruption and physical aggression. Susan’s aunt believes the plan is punitive, particularly the use of behavior charts and public consequences. She is requesting changes, but feels her concerns are not being taken seriously.

    **Tension Point**:

    · The teacher and support staff feel frustrated by Susan’s behaviors and report that the BIP “has structure that she needs.”

    · Susan’s aunt expresses that the plan causes shame and that Susan has regressed emotionally since its implementation.

    · The principal has called a meeting with the team, including a school social worker and a family liaison, to find common ground.

    #### **Student Task:**

    #### **Choose one of the following:**

    Write a
**2-page** role-play script OR create a flowchart/visual model showing your approach to school-family conflict based on the above scenario.

**In your script or flowchart, you should:**

    · Identify what triggers and communication breakdowns are occurring.

    · Use trauma-informed language to frame the discussion.

    · Include specific actions (validating family voice, suggesting alternatives, collaborative goal-setting).

    · Ensure the solution maintains
emotional safety and includes ongoing support/follow-up.

    **Assignment 2: Discussion Prompt**

The parent raises their voice and says they feel ignored by the school.

**How would you respond in the moment in a trauma-informed way?** Consider how family trauma, stress, or past school experiences might affect communication.

How would you follow up to rebuild trust and foster ongoing collaboration?

How would you respond in the moment? How would you follow up afterward to rebuild trust and ensure future collaboration?

    Assignment 3: Peers replies

Kaylee post: If a parent raised their voice and said they felt ignored, I’d try to stay calm and respond in a trauma-informed way. I’d validate their feelings by saying something like, “I’m really sorry that you feel this way. I want to understand what’s going on so we can fix this together.” I’d keep my voice gentle, give them space to talk, and remember that their reaction might come from past school experiences or stress that I can’t see.

Afterward, I’d follow up with a quick call or email to thank them for sharing their concerns and explain what steps I’m taking. I’d also ask how they prefer to communicate in the future so we can stay on the same page. The goal is to show consistency, rebuild trust, and make sure they know I actually want to collaborate with them.

Ansta post – In the moment, I would remain calm and empathetic, validating the parent’s feelings by saying something like, “I hear that you feel ignored, and I want to make sure your concerns are addressed.” I would actively listen, reflect their concerns, and ask clarifying questions to understand what support or communication would be helpful. This approach respects their perspective and acknowledges that stress, trauma, or past school experiences may influence their reactions.

Afterward, I would follow up by summarizing the conversation in writing, outlining agreed-upon next steps, and maintaining consistent communication. I would provide opportunities for the parent to be involved in decision-making and express appreciation for their input. These steps help rebuild trust, demonstrate reliability, and foster ongoing collaboration to support the student.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

Students experience adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) or traumatic events across the country every day, in their homes, schools, and through media. Trauma can come in many forms including school shootings, lockdowns, abuse, death, evacuation, bullying, divorce, family separation, etc. An important aspect of classroom management is to know how to prepare for trauma and deal with the effects it has on student learning and behaviors. Teachers must create a safe, inclusive, and equitable classroom that is proactive in supporting and providing resources when trauma is disclosed.
    **Part 1: GoReact TedTalk**
For this assignment, research an ACE and reflect on how that experience or event could affect student learning. With the specific experience or event in mind and the lens of advocacy, consider what must be done to create a safe classroom space for students. Include the following 200-250 words
    – Explain the importance of creating an inclusive and equitable classroom environment that considers ACEs and trauma.
    – Discuss how the experience or event can affect student learning, motivation, and behaviors.
    – Provide 2-3 suggestions for creating a safe classroom environment that supports the specific type of trauma.
    – Explain at least two ways teachers can partner with families to support students experiencing trauma.
    – Explain the importance of educators having already built a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom for students who have experienced trauma.
    – Explain the importance of advocating for change, including trauma-informed training and resources to support students who have gone through trauma.
